Covid-19 patients with moderate to severe symptoms must avoid fasting, doctors say.
Covid-19 patients must consult physicians before Ramadan fasting and only asymptomatic patients should undertake religious abstinence, doctors told Khaleej Times.
Ramadan in the UAE is likely to begin on April 13 and this year marks the second Holy Month amid a pandemic.
Dr Muhammed Shafeeq, specialist pulmonology at Aster Hospital, Al Qusais said, “Most religious authorities have always stated that if a person has problems with ill health, it is better to refrain from fasting.”

Healthcare professionals recommended washing one’s mask after every wear to prevent spreading Covid-19 or other diseases.
Fabric masks can be washed with other laundry and it’s best to use warm or hot water.
Dr Hazem Germanos, specialist internal medicine at Prime Medical Center, Barsha Heights branch, pointed out: “The reusable masks can be used up to 30 times, if there is no tear or damage and if washed properly. After 30 times of use, the mask will lose properties of protection. Additionally, it should be worn and taken off with clean hands. It should be washed daily with warm water and soap or any detergent for at least 20 seconds.”

Regulatory authorities in the UAE need to take the call, say doctors.
Quarantine is recommended for healthy people who have been exposed to SARS-CoV-2, which causes Covid-19, as it helps to keep the contagion at bay, UAE doctors have said.
They were reacting to the United States’s Centres for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention s announcement that people who have received the vaccine against Covid-19 do not need to quarantine if they are exposed to the coronavirus.
Doctors in the UAE said the announcement cannot be followed in the country without the approval of the regulatory authorities.
