Charley Pride, considered the first, and one of the only, Black superstars in country music, died of COVID-19 complications Saturday in Dallas, according to an official statement. He was 86 years old.
Pride was born March 18, 1934 in Sledge, Miss. He earned more than 50 top 10 hits on Billboard s Hot Country songs chart, including 1971 s Kiss an Angel Good Mornin, which also became a pop hit. More than two dozen of those songs topped the country chart, including All I Have to Offer You (Is Me), I Can t Believe That You ve Stopped Loving Me and Night Games. His last album was 2017 s Music in My Heart.
