in droves for trump-backed candidates in many cases. brian: i mean the guy, i think everybody trump blessed won. mark meredith joins us now from cincinnati with the details. hey, mark. brian, ainsley and steve. good morning to you guys. overnight j.d. vance declared victory over six other republican hopefuls. this was a bruising primary in the buckeye state. and for vance, this is also a surprising win because not that long ago he was flailing in the polls until he earned the endorsement of former president trump back in mid april. vance was considered a household name but he was not having the money and the financial backing that a lot of the other candidates had early on. that all changed after that endorsement. it was also a little bit of a surprising endorsement it wasn t that long ago that vance was openly critical of trump as well as his agenda. but last night after the results came, in vance was thanking both the president as well as the president s supporters and pledged to
election. it was russia. they are still doing it, and we are not prepared to combat it come 2020, and that is the major worry. what is the angle here for republicans to continue to push these lies? well, i think that some republicans are in a confusing spot because on the one hand you have some republicans who are trying to brush off and hide and not really talk about this essentially conspiracy theory that s been peddled around about ukraine interfering in the 2016 election. but on the other hand, you have president trump going on cable news and in and continuing to push these ideas, and so if you re somebody who wants to be incredibly loyal to president trump or maybe you are swept up in the ideas, it s sort of hard to say, but there s a lot of republicans put in a tough spot trying to rein president trump back, but at the same time not wanting to speak out against him or look like they re not
president trump getting pushback on the idea of the tariffs, what it could do to the u.s. economy as well. we re hearing push now that democrats might try to engineer a vote. maybe put republicans on the mark and say are you for it or not and try to block it. a conservative democrat from minnesota said these tariffs are hurting our farmers but it really doesn t matter. listen to this. you have a district that elected you but voted for president trump here. what is that doing to people who supported president trump back . you have to ask them. so, are they willing to vote against their pocketbook? they already have. yeah. explain why they re doing that? i can t explain it. now, shannon, what this means here is that colin peterson says they re for trump, for him. i said, wait a minute, why do they not support democrats on the opposite issue on the tariff issue. he said a lot of the conservative farmers don t like
