A recent national poll from Grinnell College found that 96% of Americans believe that free and fair elections are important to our democracy. The same poll showed only 53% of Americans are confident that the votes of the 2022 election will be counted correctly.
Regardless of party affiliation â Democrat, Republican or Independent â we can all agree that a lack of faith in our elections poses real challenges for our country.
Unfortunately, Republican legislators in Arizona are offering all the wrong âsolutions,â and are increasing division and mistrust. The clearest example is the Senateâs so-called audit of the 2020 election. Maricopa County previously hired two federally certified companies to audit the election equipment â and there was no evidence of vote switching or modification of software.

Former President Donald Trump released a statement Thursday about new developments in the Arizona State Senate audit of the November 2020 election results in Maricopa County.
“A devastating letter written by Arizona Senate President Karen Fann on voting irregularities, and probably fraud, in Maricopa County during the 2020 Presidential Election. Even the database was illegally deleted after the subpoena to produce the information,” the former president said in the statement.

The president of the Arizona State Senate asked the chairman of the Maricopa Board of Supervisors in a letter on Tuesday to address “three serious issues that have arisen in the course of the Senate’s ongoing audit of the returns of the November 3, 2020 general election in Maricopa County. ”

PHOENIX Arizonans are entitled to see the policies and procedures being used in the Senate s audit of the 2020 election returns, a judge has ruled.
At a hearing Wednesday, attorney Kory Langhofer who represents the Senate, argued there are constitutional provisions that protect lawmakers from being sued. He argued these extend to work being done on behalf of the Senate by Cyber Ninjas, the private firm hired by Senate President Karen Fann to conduct the review on the Senate s behalf.
And Langhofer said even if there are questions about the how the audit is being conducted there s no need for judicial intervention.
