Thailand floats hydro-solar projects for its dams as fossil fuel supplement

Thailand floats hydro-solar projects for its dams as fossil fuel supplement Reuters 2 hrs ago By Prapan Chankaew UBON RATCHATHANI, Thailand, April 20 (Reuters) - Thailand is close to completing one the world s biggest floating hydro-solar hybrid projects on the surface of a dam, a step toward boosting renewable energy production after years of criticism for reliance on fossil fuels. About 144,417 solar panels are being installed on a reservoir in the northeast province of Ubon Ratchathani, where workers are completing the last of seven solar farms covering 300 acres (121 hectares) of water. The state-run Electricity Generation Authority of Thailand (EGAT) is touting the pilot project as one of the world s largest hybrid hydro-solar power ventures and aims to replicate it at eight more dams over the next 16 years.

Tourism first! Island of Phuket in mass vaccination drive ...

By Prapan Chankaew and Orathai Sriring PHUKET, Thailand, April 5 (Reuters) - In Thailand, it s the all-important tourism sector that has jumped to the head of the COVID-19 vaccination line, with the country s most popular resort island embarking on a mass inoculation programme two months ahead of the rest of the country. The island of Phuket aims to deliver shots to at least 460,000 people - most of its population - as it gears up for July 1, when vaccinated overseas visitors will no longer be required to quarantine. Phuket also has its own international airport and tourists would be able to roam the island freely without posing any coronavirus risk to the rest of Thailand s population.
