âI really do miss the quiet,â said Regina Trevethan, who is finishing up her junior year in Boston. Trevethan, who had designed a course of study in biology and mammalogy at Marlboro College, said nights on Potash Hill were blissfully quiet. âThat has been one of the hardest adjustments . how to get to sleep at night. We have this little bar at the base our our building and we have people constantly yelling on the street late at night.â

On April 27, the US Attorney s Office for the Southern District of New York filed a criminal complaint against Seth Andrew, the motivating force behind Democracy Builders Fund, which purchased the campus of the defunct Marlboro College last July. On April 30, Degrees of Freedom, an innovative but non-accredited educational institution and a DBF project, announced it was delaying launch of its operations on the 533-acre campus.

“As alleged, Seth Andrew abused his position as a founder of a charter school network to steal from the very same schools he helped create,” Strauss said. “Andrew is not only alleged to have stolen the schools’ money but also to have used the stolen funds to obtain savings on a mortgage for a multimillion-dollar Manhattan apartment.”

MARLBORO â Democracy Builders Fund says it will retain ownership of the campus on Potash Hill after terms of a deal with a Canadian man were not met.
âWe were engaged, not married,â said Seth Andrew, founder of Democracy Builders and founding member of Degrees of Freedom, during a community Zoom meeting on Tuesday night.
Andrew said the engagement did not go as planned and after due diligence was conducted by a group of lawyers, Democracy Builders called off the marriage.
Less than a year ago, Democracy Builders Fund took possession of the campus for $1,725,000 in cash and debt, one day before Marlboro College finalized its merger with Emerson College in Boston.
