North-east covid cases up a third as region looks to easing of lockdown restrictions

by Callum Main, Emma Morrice and Michelle Henderson 17/03/2021, 10:00 am Updated: 17/03/2021, 10:30 am © Supplied by Callum Main Between March 7 and March 13, 180 cases were confirmed in the region. This is an increase of 45 (33%) on the previous seven-day period. However, as Scotland looks towards an easing of restrictions next month, Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire remain among the council areas with the lowest seven-day rate. In mainland Scotland, only Argyle & Bute, the Borders, Dumfries & Galloway, Angus, Moray and Inverclyde have a lower rate than Aberdeen or Aberdeenshire. Glasgow, East Renfrewshire and Stirling are the areas with the highest rates. How is the positivity rate calculated? Case numbers can be put into context by looking at them as a rate per 100,000 population.

'Several' Covid cases linked to north-east school with class asked to self-isolate

Updated: March 12, 2021, 5:39 pm © Jason Hedges/DCT Media Thank you for signing up to The Press and Journal newsletter. Something went wrong - please try again later. Sign Up A number of pupils at a north-east primary school have been asked to self-isolate after “several” Covid cases were detected. Parents at Portsoy School have expressed concerns ahead of the P4-P7 pupils returning on Monday. One claimed they had not been informed of the extent of the outbreak, or when pupils or teachers tested positive. They also suggested 90% of pupils in one year group were not attending school due to concerns and that no provision for home schooling had been made.
