The Columbus Blue Jackets have conducted multiple interviews with both Gerard Gallant and Rick Tocchet as they look for John Tortorella’s replacement as head coach, but the job may actually be going to someone they are much more familiar with. Brad Larsen, an assistant with the Blue Jackets since 2014-15, before Tortorella even arrived in Columbus, is considered the front-runner for the job, according to Aaron Portzline of The Athletic. Larsen has also interviewed twice for the job.
Even before he joined the Blue Jackets bench, Larsen was part of the Columbus organization. He served as an assistant and then head coach of the Springfield Falcons almost immediately after his playing career ended. His final season on the ice was as captain of the Portland Pirates, playing alongside current NHL talents like Tyler Ennis, Paul Byron, and even current Blue Jacket N
Petrovek Named President, Alternate Governor of Colorado Eagles Jun 1, 2021
WINDSOR, CO. – The Colorado Eagles, proud AHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche, have announced that Brian Petrovek has been hired to serve as president and alternate governor of the Colorado Eagles. Petrovek most recently served as CEO and alternate governor for the AHL’s Stockton Heat from 2017 to 2020. In addition, he has previously led the American Hockey League’s Adirondack Flames (2014-15), Portland Pirates (2000-14) and Utica Devils (1987-90), as well as serving as team president of the ECHL’s Adirondack Thunder (2015-17). Petrovek’s professional experience also includes hosting three league All-Star Classics, including the AHL All-Star Game in Portland, Maine in both 2003 and 2010, and the ECHL All-Star Classic in Glens Falls, New York in 2017.
Here's a happy Maine sports memory for you. May 30, 1994. 27 years ago this week, the Portland Pirates won their one and only AHL Calder Cup Championship! It was the very first year of the franchise. A magical year to be sure with team members became household names in Maine: Killer Kevin Kaminski, Kent Hulst, Jeff Nelson, Kerry Clark, Byron Dafoe, and Olaf Kolzig. The Pirates totally owned the town in the first three years in Portland, with sell-outs at the CCCC most of the time. Portland was Hockeytown!
