Oregon Symphony
Whenever the Oregon Symphony takes the stage live again, it ll have its new music director conducting.
The symphony has named Austrian-born David Danzmayr as its new music director, starting with the 2021-22 season, its 125th anniversary year.
He s recently served as chief conductor of the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra and music director of ProMusica Chamber Orchestra. He has conducted orchestras at prominent concert halls in Germany, Italy, Scotland and major United States cities.
He ll replace Carlos Kalmar, who s departing after 18 years and without the benefit of leading the symphony in live performances in his final season.
Danzmayr believes a composer s musical expression is shaped by their personal environment, family heritage and culture. With that, the symphony s new Creative Alliance of artists and cultural thought leaders will help shape music and performances in his first season.
