All Port Huron grade levels to resume hybrid learning

It's back to hybrid learning in the Port Huron Area School District come next month, although students and parents will have to wait a little longer for full face to face instruction. Members of the Port Huron Area School District Board of Education Monday moved ahead with a plan to expand the current hybrid model from grade five and below to all grade levels starting February 1st. Board members also set a start date of March 1st for full face to face learning at the elementary school level with hybrid continuing for grade 6 through 12. Board members Monday suggested that it will take more vaccination and a further lowering in new infections before the school distrct could return to full traditional learning.

Port Huron Schools plans for January reopening, sells Lakeport building

December 16, 2020 Elementary students in the Port Huron Area School District could be going back to the classroom as soon as January 11th. However, it could be well into 2021 until all grade levels of the Port Huron Area School District are allowed to reconvene face to face learning.   Theo Kerhoulis, acting superintendent for the Port Huron Area School District, says it’s all about managing staffing shortages due to the coronavirus pandemic. “We know over Christmas and New Year’s people will gather and the numbers will continue to rise,” said Kerhoulis. “By January 11th we should be able to open the elementary (schools) and focus all those extra resources, substitute teachers, to the elementary level.” The board will reconsider opening up middle and high schools at their January 18th board meeting. Randy Fernandez appointed to SC4 Board of Trustees

The board made the appointment in a special meeting on Nov. 30. Six community members submitted letters of interest for the position, including Alphonso Amos, chair of Black Lives Matter Port Huron; Fernandez; Michael Goforth, who finished third in the five-person race for two seats on the board in the Nov. 3 election; Bill Gratopp, the former District 7 county commissioner, and Debra McNair, who finished fifth out six candidates for three seats on the board of Port Huron Area School District on Nov. 3. - Advertisement - I applied because I truly care about SC4, said Fernandez via email after his appointment. I did not lobby for the position. I wanted to give back to an institution that has been good to me, my five siblings, my two sons, nieces and nephews who have all attended SC4.
