Housebuilders are giving cash to pay for school meals in Poplar now that classrooms are reopening.
A fundraising appeal by Poplar Harca housing organisation is paying for the food and for laptops for children whose families who can’t afford computers or broadband.
Now their contractor on the Teviot estate redevelopment, Hill’s, has dipped into its pocket to help find £15,000 for laptops and £10,000 for a “food pantry” at Poplar’s Manorfield Primary.

A £1million appeal to get every child a computer so they can learn online has been launched in Tower Hamlets schools.
It aims to end digital disadvantage” in the East End by making sure all children have digital devices and internet connection.
The campaign by the Tower Hamlets Education Partnership charity involves the local authority and Community Fibre broadband provider to get computers into every child s home. It’s important that they re able to get online for their education, the charity s Brendan Crossan said. “There is no doubt that Covid-19 may continue to have an impact on children’s learning.

More children have been given laptops to work from home with East End schools in lockdown.
Youngsters from two primary schools in Poplar benefited from the latest round of laptops being handed out by Harca housing organisation and Community Fibre internet provider.

The laptops were distributed to pupils of Lansbury Lawrence and Clara Grant schools, bringing the number of families who have received free laptops and training in the programme to 230.
