plight, the mayor got a call from president trump, the man who said climate change is a hoax. today the mayor will visit us and tell us what they had to discuss. good afternoon, everyone. welcome to the lead. i m jake tapper. we ll begin with the politics lead. whether he meant to, whether he even knows he did, today president trump tweeted what seems a clear confirmation that he s being investigated for potential obstruction of justice. the tweet, one of many in a fleury over the past few days, seems to confirm the washington post scoop of a couple days ago and it comes just days after the deputy attorney general rob rosenstein seemed to be poo-pooing any story that has anonymous story. quite an unusual statement last night warning americans not to accept as true stories based on anonymous officials, but president trump then undermined his underling s caution and then attacked rosenstein tweeting, quote, i am being investigated for firing the fbi director by
that was the advice from loretta lynch. now a top democrat wants to look into that matter. i think we need to know more about that. there s only one way to know about it. that s to have the judiciary committee take a look at it. neil: and what did you make of that brita? that was like the tree falling in the forest. if you weren t around to see it or hear it, didn t happen. but that s a big deal. it is a big deal. that tells you we re not getting a lot of coverage about the mainstream outlets about it. makes it clear that they have an agenda, they want you to pay attention to the trump-russia story and not loretta lynch covering up or minimizing the investigation into hillary clinton s e-mails. can t say i m surprised. these are the same people that fan-girled over her throughout the election. the same people that wrote the pant suit pieces, the charming profiles about her gal pals. and i really do think it s a shame that the media only cares
poo-pooing an investigation and the administration was doing everything they could to help hillary clinton and was the case your husband. two things. i tend to not look backwards. i look forward, a lot of work in front of us without second guessing what happened before. i must say that president obama and vice president biden, they offered their commitment to reserve judgment, to not participate in the primary and they lived up to their word. neil: seems they might have been doing something different. i choose not to believe that. neil: okay. the fact that james comey said something that might be interesting, it s yesterday s news for us. neil: but neither of you are fading into the sun sets here.
we have all of this hoopla about chuck schumer and the drama between him and donald trump. so we re going to get a lot of attention about that. to be honest a lot of the hoopla and the attention surrounding the senate portion of the investigation is frustrating. i think oftentimes these senate investigations don t really end up in any real results or any clear, you know, resolution. i think we have a special prosecutor appointed. that s clear. we should let that person investigate this to the full extend. the american people do deserve to know whether or not or to what extent russia was involved in the election and we ll get clear answers out of the prosecution than this highly politicized senate portion of the investigation. neil: thanks very much. thanks for having me. neil: in case you department hear this earlier today, the
other day doesn t matter much. i m glad that democrats are talking about it. we know that loretta lynch met with bill clinton on a tarmac. and the reports were whispers that she would keep lunch around on if she won the election. these are just small tidbits in a large story that does seem to cover up her e-mail scandal and cover up this larger pay-for-play scandal. neil: so sort of preview the kind of summer, you know, hearing-wise, investigation-wise, matter-wise, whatever. where are we going here? sure. had a great piece earlier today that said basically this entire summer, the media will be completely fixated on the trump-russia investigation. jeff sessions is expected to testify in public.
