buy greenland, first was the 1860s trying to buy a lot of places. this is when we bought alaska. we tried to buy iceland. that worked out well. that worked out well but the russians wanted to sell. wasn t true with greenland, iceland and we wanted to buy the what became the virgin islands we later got in 1917. we tried again after world war ii but tried again because there was a strike thategic reason to. we had a special relationship with greenland because the danish government had come under nazi occupation there formed policy split and half of it did a deal to allow us to put our military in green laland. when the war ends, the government said we don t really want your troops there anymore. the u.s. government said please, we need it. we ll buy the island from you and the dane said we re not selling it. denmark becomes part of nato and part of the deal with denmark coming to nato, they give us
negotiations, he s pleased with china trade talks including china agreeing to criminalize the sale of fentanyl. they ve agreed to do the death penalty for selling fentanyl and if it s shipped to the united states, that would be a very severe penalty. i think it s going to have a tremendous impact. china is a major fentanyl producer and much of it is brought into the u.s. through mexico. president trump and others argue that a wall or barrier would limit smuggling and save lives but the dea says most fentanyl is hidden in commercial vehicles crossing at legal ports of entry true. but i can also tell you firsthand there are hundreds of miles of open arizona desert that are very active drug smuggling corridors. shannon: trace gallagher on the west coast, thank you very much. president trump breaking news tonight on a whole host of other topics including what some are characterizing as a policy split with his intelligence chief,
shannon: thank you very much, donald trump breaking news on a whole host of other topics including what some are characterizing as a policy split with his intelligence chief. what is he saying about that? allison barber has the latest. reporter: donald trump will the new york times, summoned his intelligence chief to the white house after learning they gave congressional testimony this week which contradicted his foreign-policy positions, the intel chief told him there testimony was, quote, totally mischaracterized, telling the intelligence committee that iran is not currently taking action to produce a nuclear device but iranian officials threatened to push the boundaries if they do not gain benefit. he said isis will continue to be a threat to the united states and north korea is unlikely to give up its nuclear weapons. according to the times donald trump talked about the russia investigation saying the
complimented him, saying he s right, this is an issue. but and it is because he s focused on the 2018 midterms and they want to talk about the tax cut. they don t want to talk about what a trade war would do to the economy. that was the reason for this press conference. that s the reason he has chosen trade to really sort of fight back the president, the racial division, russia, none of that really sort of gave paul ryan a spine, it turns out trade is what he feels really strongly about. so, you know, democrats want to see this fight between republican leadership and they want to see and the president. they want to see this fight happen. hang on. one other thing, this speaks to sort of this disagreement with the house speaker, paul ryan, and also gary cohen, the chief economic adviser in the white house, speaks to what some people see as chaos here. they see a policy split and they
