The Manipur government has issued a directive for all illegal weapons in the state to be surrendered within 15 days. Security forces will conduct a comprehensive search operation to recover these weapons if they are not surrendered within the given timeframe. The government has also warned that anyone found associated with illegal weapons will face severe consequences. This action comes after reports of looting and theft of firearms and ammunition from police stations and outposts in Manipur. The government has urged the public to cooperate in restoring peace and normalcy in the state.
Singh while talking to media persons in Imphal said, “ “Our government has requested the Union Home Ministry to cancel the free movement regime. Security forces have not properly guarded the border, they should be deployed at zero point, they were found guarding the border 14-15 km inside Indian territory.”
The Manipur government has requested the Director General of police (DGP) to recover the arms and ammunition that were looted during the ethnic riot. The recommendation was made by the Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC), who visited various districts and relief camps, including the worst violence-hit district of Churachandpur.
At least 175 people were killed, 1108 others injured and 32 were missing in Manipur since ethnic violence broke out in the state four months ago, Inspector General of Police (Operations) I.K. Muivaa said on Friday.
