After a guy challenged me who said if you dont like whats going on in washington, what would you like to do i wrote my own budget. There were votes on for budgets that year, the president s budget, the democratic budget, the black caucus budget, and the case it and the john kasich. Udget an i had 29 other people who thought it was not right to mortgage our young peoples future. I also thought there is a good value which is you dont live in debt. I spent 10 years of my life fighting for that, literally 10 years. In the late 1990s i worked with the Clinton Administration and i was one of the chief architect of the first time we balance the federal budget since man walked on the moon. We paid down the largest amount of the publicly held debt and the economy was doing very well3 . I also was a military reformer. Just an honor and a pleasure to work with this man over the last two years we worked together very closely in the api forum. And all that was volunteer work and david had that cando attitude. Anything i asked of him, it was always, no problem, i can get that done. He put together seminars for the elderly to keep them safe on the street. He helped me with a toy drive for young kids during christmas. He had the energy to put together like the chief said, those blue bags that came all the way from hong kong. He brokered the whole thing. So, david, im going to miss working with you. And there are so many examples where you have empowered youth to believe in themselves and to really make a difference in the world, whether its the undocumented youth policy where the Youth Commission was instrumental, to the free muni for Youth Program which just started a few days ago, to the historic first meeting between th
Here at city hall. I just first want to really thank you for your service to our young people here in the city and county of San Francisco. I got to know you when i was at the board [speaker not understood] and got to continue working with you on the board of supervisors. ~ board of education i want to say someone who was a youth organizer for many years, its often hard to get young people at the table around policy discussions for numerous reasons. A, we a policy makers are not aware of the needs of our young people. And b, its really hard to get young people into city hall and understand often our very complicated processes, legislation, and understand the best way to give input. But the balance of figuring out just how to empower young people but also guide and mentor and train young people is a delicate balance to have. But its great it see how beautifully you do that over the last three years. And both how young people respect and love you, also how you are able to raise Young Lea
