Middletown considering new building to house city jail after years of study

City officials are exploring the future of the nearly 45-year-old full service jail as state jail standards and other requirements are reducing the capacity for inmates in the facility. Middletown is one of five municipalities in Ohio that operates a full service jail. City officials recently proposed construction of a Municipal Justice Center and relocate the city jail and municipal court into a newer, larger facility.

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio â In the past 15 years, every study conducted has concluded that Middletown is better served by maintaining a municipal jail and that it would be cost-effective to close and replace the facility.

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - Another juvenile is now facing a murder charge following a deadly Middletown shooting on Jan. 31.
Three people total, two 17-year-olds and Karlos Philpot, are charged with murder and felonious assault, according to officials.
Middletown police say the shooting happened in the 3100 block of Wilbraham Road around 9 p.m. on Jan. 31.
Officers say they found two people with gunshot wounds.
One of the victims, Angela Combs, later died at the hospital. Police say the second shooting victim had non-life-threatening injuries.
