The Fiji Times » Report: Rise in coke and ice trade

Wanshika Kumar Methamphetamine. File image. Photo: 123RF There was an increase in drug trafficking, especially cocaine and methamphetamine in Fiji and other Pacific countries over the past five years, a Human Rights Situational Analysis Report for 2020 has revealed. The report stated the use of small vessels for drug trafficking such as yachts had presented Fiji as a convenient transit point for the trade. “According to a police spokesperson in a media report, traffickers leave behind a few kilos of drugs as payment for assistance received from their networks in Fiji and the drugs end up in the local market, contributing to a marked increase in use among the population,” stated the report.
