giving the traditional cheer for the new man arc. charles has met today with the prime minister and other politicians an the archbishop of canter berry. many people are gathered outside including buckingham palace trying to catch a sight of the new king on this momentous day. we ve got full coverage of today s events, scott mcclain is at windsor casting, and we re in balmoral, scotland and at buckingham palace. max, you first, moments ago, now william, prince of wales put out a statement paying tribute to the late queen. what did it say? reporter: well it is deeply personal. he was very close to the queen. as was the princess of wales, kate. and he referred to how kate has given the the queen gave guidance to kate for 20 years. that is since their wedding in 2011 and the time before that. and william looked for the queens for guidance but what will be his own future monarchy. it was very personal. it wasn t necessarily constitutional. the prince the king will be dealing
rift. and so, i think it speaks extremely well of william in effect for perhaps taking a cue from his father and moving it one step further. i mean, we now have a situation where the new king is reaffirming his tradition and it is turning into a sort of new hope as sort a healing within the family. to see the four of them as they are, you are sort of reminded of what was from the very beginning, and i ve felt for the last two years that harry and meghan missed a terrible opportunity by leaving the royal family. they had so many things that they could do. and william and charles needs them more than ever. who knows. nothing is there is hurts there. and there is a lot of hurt and a lot of mutual mistrust. but, you know, one can perhaps at this moment be an optimist and think that this could be a brief celebration and healing. sally, your words are so poignant but the pictures are speaking louder than anything. we did get to see william right before he got into the car. he a
invited harry and meghan to join. tension has been brewing for some time now. william is now the heir apparent to the throne and prince harry stepped back from royal duties and moved to the united states. but the special connection was never broken. prince harry saying the queen s presence can be felt no matter what room you re in. and it will be some time before the reality of life without granny will be real. what a day, scott and what a surprise to see the two brothers together. how significant was this moment? reporter: well, i should point out, first off, jim, all of the people who have come here today, they didn t come with the expectations they would see will and kate or harry and meghan. they came with the expectations they would be able to pay their respects to queen elizabeth ii, drop candles, flowers, cards, whatever and pay their respects at the gates of windsor castle. only when the staff put up barrier did they figure someone was coming. we figured this would
