Planning Board reviews 20-acre solar project proposed on wooded Fearing Hill Road lot

WAREHAM – The Planning Board Monday opened a site plan review hearing on a proposed solar project on a wooded 44-acre lot at 91 and 101 Fearing Hill Road, with the solar arrays being contained on a 20-acre, fenced-in section of the lot, that will produce 4.4 megawatts of electricity and entail extensive clearing to make way for the project.
The applicant is Wareham MA 3 LLC. The proponents say it will not entail earth removal from the site, and that a natural screen will keep the solar arrays from being visible from area homes.

Wareham Planning Board approves farm-friendly solar-array on Wareham-Carver line

WAREHAM – The Planning Board Monday approved its site plan review of a “dual-use” plan to blend a 7.3-megawatt solar-array field with active cranberry bogs on land straddling the Wareham-Carver border off North Carver Road.
Brett Meredith owns and continues to farm the land. The site that will be impacted is already cleared of trees so deforestation will not be necessary, according to proponents.
Meredith said the arrangement’s added revenue will allow him to continue farming.
The state’s Solar Massachusetts Renewable Target or SMART Program provides financial incentives for solar-array systems designed to allow a farm to continue working. The overall site is 110 acres, with 77 in Wareham and 33 in Carver.

PHILLIPSTON After first approving waivers to several zoning bylaws and setting conditions for the eventual issuance of a special permit, Phillipston’s Planning Board Monday night approved the site plan for a retail cannabis business. Local entrepreneur Damon Schmidt plans to establish the business at the corner of State Road/Route 2A and Baldwin Hill Road.
The board’s decision was made following a public hearing that had been continued from a previous date. The matter had been delayed in order to give consultant Patrick McCarty of McCarty Associates of Leominster the opportunity to review Schmidt’s plans. Those plans had been revised after McCarty in February had raised concerns regarding several issues with the proposal.
