Lockyer revhead steals car converter from 'dump-of-house'

Premium Content Subscriber only A car enthusiast has used a saw to cut off a muffler and converter from a parked vehicle at a house he thought was abandoned and “looked like a dump”. Shane Anthony O’Halloran was driving with mates on the Warrego Highway near Plainland, when their white Holden commodore was intercepted by police. O’Halloran was a passenger in the vehicle, and with his friends, told police they had bought some converters from a nearby home on February 23.   Police went to the nominated address and noticed the house was vacant with a small white sedan parked outside.

IT'S TOO FAR: Expectant mums don't want 'satellite' services

Premium Content Subscriber only If the Lockyer Valley had a hospital that offered birthing facilities, Janelle would have had both her children close to home. Instead, last month she was screaming and in fear she would give birth to her second son somewhere on the Range as her husband drove to a Toowoomba hospital. Janelle, from Plainland, has joined the growing number of Lockyer Valley mums who have desperately called for a local hospital with birthing options. It s the baby s choice of what it does and how quickly it wants to come out - the control is taken away from the parent in this situation, she said.

422 RBTs, 40+ infringements after cops conduct major blitz

Premium Content Subscriber only Drivers are “just not getting the lesson” police have said, after conducting a major blitz on the weekend that led to more than 40 infringement notices and several arrests. Two drivers were busted more than 20 kilometres above the speed limit and another 29 were caught speeding, showing some people have “no regard for the road rules or other road users,” officer-in-charge of Laidley police, Senior Sergeant Regan Draheim said. Senior Sergeant Draheim said a 65-year-old Laidley man was caught driving under the influence of drugs while another two males were “located and arrested” on outstanding warrants. Why Coffee Club owner has two stores 250m apart

Premium Content Subscriber only THE only two Coffee Clubs in the Lockyer Valley are owned by the same person and they’re no more than 250m apart. Franchisee Boubacar Barry, known as Barry, owns both Plainland Coffee Clubs, which are separated by the Warrego Highway. He’s owned the original store at the eastbound truck stop since 2015, and launched the westbound store earlier this year, a decision he said took a couple of months to commit to. But why does Barry have two stores so close to each other? Because of the expanding community and the prime location, he said.
