Local News: Eureka Springs council OKs sidewalk, bike path study (3/2/21)

Tuesday, March 2, 2021 File photo The Eureka Springs City Council is showing support for a proposal to add sidewalks and bike paths to Pivot Rock Road and East Mountain Street. Council member LauraJo Smole presented the proposal at the council’s most recent meeting, on Monday, Feb. 22. Smole suggested appointing a committee including planning commission members to conduct a feasibility study. From there, Smole said, the committee would present its findings to the council. Smole also suggested including a representative from the Eureka Springs City Advertising and Promotion Commission on the committee. There s possibilities that they have some monies we might be able to access, Smole said.

On Monday night, council member LauraJo Smole presented the proposal. Smole suggested appointing a committee including planning commission members to conduct a feasibility study. From there, Smole said, the committee would present its findings to the council. Smole also suggested including a representative from the Eureka Springs City Advertising and Promotion Commission on the committee. There s possibilities that they have some monies we might be able to access, Smole said. Mayor Butch Berry said the CAPC can t spend money on bikes and paths. Smole asked if it would be OK if the paths connected the hotels and restaurants and Berry said no.

Local News: Eureka Springs city council moves forward with subdivision (2/2/21)

Tuesday, February 2, 2021 The Eureka Springs City Council is on board with the new Pine Crest Subdivision. On Monday, Jan. 25, the council heard an application from Jay Gustin for the subdivision, located off Pivot Rock Road. Council member Terry McClung moved to prepare an ordinance to approve the subdivision and city clerk Ann Armstrong explained that the proposed ordinance is a draft because city attorney Tim Weaver hasn’t had a chance to look over it yet. McClung asked Gustin if he can wait two weeks for the subdivision to be approved and Gustin said that would be fine with him. McClung suggested deferring the issue to the council’s next meeting, where the council would complete all three readings of the ordinance.
