RBC COVID-19 cases spike as state vaccination plans change | Rio Blanco Herald Times | Serving Meeker, Rangely, Dinosaur & Northwest Colorado

Listen to this post RBC | Both Meeker and Rangely are seeing spikes in positive COVID-19 cases, and an increase in the number of residents requiring hospitalization. As of Monday, six local residents, ranging in age from their 50s to 80s, were being treated at Pioneers Medical Center in Meeker. 81% of ICU beds in the Northwest region are currently in use. There have been no more than two new hospitalizations per day of Rio Blanco County residents in the past two weeks. RBC Public Health Director Alice Harvey and Public Health Nurse Sarah Coker said the initial rise in positive cases may have been linked to the holidays, but most of the new cases added in the last two weeks are likely from widespread community transmission.

Listen to this post MEEKER | We are writing in response to Dr. Bob Dorsett’s previous letter on Jan. 7, 2021. His response is greatly appreciated, as it does point out some needed clarification. We understand how he reached his interpretation, so we are taking an opportunity to clarify. First, for transparency, here is our process in writing this column. I, Dr. Justin Grant, have had the privilege to draft the articles representing PMC providers. Each article has been reviewed by my peers (the PMC providers) and has undergone multiple revisions based upon their critiques and suggestions, until each provider is comfortable with the article’s contents.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Dec 17, 2020 | Rio Blanco Herald Times | Serving Meeker, Rangely, Dinosaur & Northwest Colorado

Dear Editor: As we finish an exceptionally difficult calendar year, the Meeker School Board would like to convey thanks and the best hopes of the season to our district staff and to our community. Our teachers, support staff, and administration have made extraordinary efforts, far beyond their usual duties, to make sure kids have a safe environment and opportunities to learn. Teachers rapidly adopted new learning tools and strategies, often doing double duty to teach students both in the classroom and at home. Custodians redoubled measures to sanitize classrooms and keep buildings safe. Transportation and food service personnel rose to the challenge to transport kids safely and to prepare and deliver meals outside of the facilities. Coaches adapted protocols and precautions far more than the normal helmets and elbow pads. Administration monitored and adapted programs to rapidly changing public health recommendations. We owe a considerable debt of gratitude to them all.

Many major retailers and grocers have already experienced novel coronavirus outbreaks, and more of them appear on the latest weekly update from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment which again includes over 200 fresh entries. Walmart reports four new outbreaks across the state, while Home Depot has three in a single metro county. The CDPHE considers an entity an outbreak after two or more COVID-19 cases among residents, staffers or other people connected to a specific location are confirmed within a fourteen-day period, or two or more cases of respiratory illness with an onset of symptoms within a fourteen-day period are paired with at least one additional COVID-19 diagnosis. The vast majority of businesses and facilities identified as outbreaks remain open, while working with the department to monitor symptoms and prevent future infect
