Pinson Council recognizes Kristina Allred as Teen Library Board Champion

By Crystal McGough PINSON The June 3, 2021, Pinson City Council meeting started off by recognizing Pinson Public Library’s very first Teen Library Board Champion, Kristina Allred. Pinson CityFest this Saturday at Bicentennial Park

By Crystal McGough PINSON The city of Pinson will be celebrating its 17th birthday with Pinson’s annual CityFest this Saturday, May 8, at Bicentennial Park. The event will begin at 10 a.m. and go until 2 p.m. “We’ll celebrate the city’s birthday with cupcakes for everyone,” City Councilor Dawn Tanner said at Thursday night’s council meeting. “Everyone is welcome to come. We’ll have food trucks there, the splash pad will be open, we’ll have activities for the youth (and) we’ll have activities for young adults.” The splash pad will be free during CityFest. Spikeball and disc golf will be offered, as well, and the Pinson Pubic Library and Pinson Parks and Rec. will be providing activities for children.

City of Pinson, Pinson Helping Others, to host barbecue cook-off fundraiser Saturday for tornado victims

By Crystal McGough PINSON – During the regular Pinson City Council meeting Thursday, March 4, 2021, Mayor Joe Cochran reminded those in attendance that a fundraiser will be held at Bicentennial Park on Saturday, March 6, for the tornado victims at the Rusk and Wares mobile home parks. The fundraiser, a barbecue cook-off competition, will be held from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m., and there will be entertainment on the Bicentennial Park Stage throughout the event. “We met Monday evening at a local church down in Roebuck with the EMA, The United Way and Catholic Charities, and about 35 people from the mobile home park,” Cochran said, adding that United Way will place a case worker in the affected area and that committees are being put in place to make sure each resident gets the help they need. “Every Tuesday, we will interview people for their needs.”

Pinson Council adopts 2019/2020 excellent audit, increases funds to Clay-Pinson Chamber of Commerce

By Crystal McGough PINSON – The Pinson City Council received an audit presentation for the 2019/2020 fiscal year from Charlie Polmatier of Borland Benefield, CPA, Thursday night at the regularly scheduled city council meeting. “I’m pleased to report that the city’s in fine financial shape; in fact, strong financial shape,” Polmatier said. “The independent auditor’s report … is unmodified across the entire statement, meaning there’s a pass-fail grade in the audit business and this is pass. So, congratulations. I’m also pleased to report that we had no deficiencies or findings to report in terms of your financial report, so kudos to everyone involved in preparing.”
