you re not so sure anymore. trump held a big rally in alabama just last night. i mean, why is an ex-president holding political rallies eight months after leaving office? why is not off building homes like jimmy carter or painting portraits like george w. bush? well, first of all, picturing donned doing one of those things is really kind of funny even though there s nothing very fun bet situation we find ourselves in. he s doing it. he can t help himself on the one hand because he needs the attention, but the reason it matters he doesn t matter. the reason it matters is because he s continued to be enabled by republican leadership, you know, these elected republicans who go down to mar-a-lago, to kiss his ring and ask for his endorsements and ask for his permission. that s why these rallies matter, plus, of course, in the middle of covid in a state that has now icu beds left, know, and that s, again, that s part of this long-standing problem which is donald s really good at asking
will incur them the same treatment they long inflicted on others. let s talk about it. joining me now are christina and sue ramirez, christine chen and returning champ, jessie ross, member of the black foot nation and co-host of the podcast break dances with wolves. thank you all for being here. christine, i want to start you because the biggest gains that were made in the latino community which i find fascinating because not only is this a community that s diverse in terms of origin, but it s very politically diverse as well. so, what do these numbers say to you about how elected officials need to reach out to this community that for a long time was quite overlooked? well, you know, i live in texas where one in five latinos live. lots of people picture my state as a state filled with white cowboys and for sure we have great white cowboys in our state but actually what people should be picturing is a state that is majority young, brown and black.
actually been to the front of war. the gentleman who we re picturing right no is an iraq war veteran. these are people who have seen the worst of the worst as police officers on the street. i was substantially moved. i was also extraordinarily disappointed by the republican sideshow led by elise stefanik and her leadership colleagues on the front end. but speaker pelosi, in all of her wid wisdom, she s a sly character. she knew better than to give those nut jobs a televised hearing to spit the craziness she was somehow responsible for the insurrection. i think it worked out well for the democrats and the testimony was extraordinarily powerful. it will be interesting to see whether it does change minds, mark. before the testimony today there was a brand new poll that showed 33% of republicans surveyed say they are pessimistic about their party s future. is that enough to convince party leaders to change their
