The most common allegation making the rounds is that it is a ploy by the pharmaceutical industry and their sponsors “to make money and depopulate Africa.” For this reason, more and more Nigerians are turning to herbal medicine, to ‘prevent’ the spread of Covid-19 despite having not proven to be a remedy for the pandemic which has claimed close to two million lives world-wide. According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Covid-19 cases in Nigeria have surpassed 100,000. On January 13, 2020 alone, 1398 new cases and nine deaths were recorded in the country. At the time of filing this report, total cases were 103,000 with 1,373 deaths.
