Spending in Alabama’s U.S. Senate race topped $30 million in the final months of the campaign, and one candidate accounted for most of it.  Democratic U.S. Sen. Doug Jones, who lost a re-election bid to Republican nominee Tommy Tuberville, reported about $24.8 million in expenditures (more than 80% of the total) between July 1 and Nov. 23, according to records filed with the Federal Election Commission.
