Philsan Isaak and Steven Truong are among 30 people nationwide to receive $90,000 scholarships as immigrant kids “poised to make significant contributions to US society, culture or their academic field.”
Steven Truong and Philsan Isaak, both from Blaine, received Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowships for new Americans. Truong, whose parents came from Vietnam, is pursuing a M.D./Ph.D. at Stanford University. Philsan, whose parents came from Somalia, is studying law at Yale.
Three current Yale students and three recent graduates have received Soros fellowships, which support graduate study for immigrants or children of immigrants.
