Authorities along the Cambodian-Thai border continue to maintain tight security and prevent workers from illegally crossing the border into Thailand following the Khmer New Year, as the number of workers returning from the neighbouring country begins to decrease.
Ahead of the Khmer New Year, officials in the provinces along the Thai border say Cambodian workers have been returning from Thailand in large numbers every day, with some of them using forged Covid-19 vaccination cards in an attempt to avoid a 14-day quarantine.
Over 700 Cambodian migrant workers are currently returning to the Kingdom from Thailand on average each day in advance of the traditional Khmer New Year holiday after the government approved the resumption its celebration this year with Covid-19 infection rates on the decline.
By mid-march, nearly 5,000 Cambodian workers had returned from Thailand through the international border checkpoint in Oddar Meanchey province, with nearly 300 testing positive for the coronavirus, according to a summary report seen by The Post on March 15.
Cambodian migrant workers continue to return home through border provinces, with those who are unvaccinated being placed immediately in quarantine, and with all being subject to temperature checks.
