and talks about the media and how important the media is and donald trump suspect treating the media right. to be frank, obama obama, was not exactly the most transparent easy to sort of get access to president ever either. i think he is going to really reserve the times that he wants to speak out to things that he views as sort of morally wrong, things that he feels as though he has been a leader on when he was president, things that jeopardize his legacy, jeopardize what it means to be an american. and while i think the media is part of that, my guess he won t come out and talk about it. i want to go back into the room. peter alexander standing by. we are expecting the president any moment now. and with him will be alexander acosta. as you point out, somebody who has credentials, but somebody who the only thing we know so far that the president has said about him earlier today was that
house. as tamron indicated as well, criticism coming already from most of the gop candidates for office. we re going to hear the president today announce his own executive actions on tightening controls, controls on buying and owni ini guns in this country. the president has complained forcefully he too often is forced to address the topic in the aftermath of a mass shooting in this country, and it is saying something that the president will be introduced this morning by the father of one of the sandy hook connecticut victims. peter alexander standing by the a the white house for us. peter, the president has been very candid on this subject, very angry when addressing the media after one of these mass shootings. yeah. so many of those occasions where the president has had to speak before america giving eulogies, talking about the grave loss of life of so many young
now. their hope right now is to become more effective and efficient in terms of their enforcement of the present laws. we recognize that an executive order cannot change the law but they hope to better clarify it in a way to cast a wider net of capturing more of these sellers as individuals who need to be licensed so they as a result will have to go forward with background checks for individuals they are trying to sell to. peter alexander on a cold morning outside the white house, peter, thank. across town we go to our justice correspondent, pete williams. pete, one down a review of what we re going to hear from the president and, candidly, how much he can expect to get out of this. well, these are by, i think everybody s likes, modest changes. in fact what the administration says here i think with some justification is that the thing that s got the most attention which is trying to increase the number of people who sell guns getting federal firearms licenses which would in turn
the crowds have been incredible. most americans don t think much about the u.n. yeah, it s there on the east side of new york, but it s not really a big focus of the country but it s still important to the world and to europe and certainly to the developing world. i think he s using this lectern, this podium, if you will, because he knowing everything he says will be broadcast to every country in the world. when you go to a state capital, you want to go to the state capital press corps, albany, harris, wherever, that s a way to get to the state. i think they ve done this really, really well in terms of press advance. peter alexander standing by for us outside. how do we expect this address to the entire u.n. to be different from the address yesterday that was made before that joint session of congress? i think obviously there will be a lot of similarities.
