2 suspects in custody, including juvenile, after overnight shooting leaves one dead

Midwest Communications Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood has released the name of the victim. He said 34-year-old Joshua Perkins died Monday at 12:05 A.M. from a gunshot to the torso, which caused internal bleeding. Police have made two arrests in connection with the shooting. 18-year-old Arenza Brown and a 17-year-old juvenile male were arrested on a count each of first degree murder, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, and attempted aggravated armed robbery. Brown was placed into Peoria County Jail. The 17-year-old was taken to Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center. The PPD said a total of seven persons of interest have been interviewed.

Two minors arrested in connection with botched Galesburg gun shop robbery

February 26, 2021 Two minors were arrested in Peoria this week in connection with the death of a Peoria teen during a botched robbery last month at Galesburg Guns and Ammo. The incident happened on January 6th. One of the teens, 17, was arrested on Tuesday, while the other, 15, was arrested on Thursday. Police spokeswoman Amy Dotson said both were initially taken to the Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center. Galesburg Police Chief Russ Idle said the teens are facing charges of burglary and first-degree murder in connection with the incident at Galesburg Guns and Ammo. The boys are charged under the state’s felony murder provision, which holds that they are legally responsible for 17-year-old Daryl Keller’s death even though they didn’t shoot him. Teenager Arrested In Fatal Shooting In North Peoria

WCBU file photo UPDATED 4:05 p.m. | A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on first-degree murder charges after a shooting late Wednesday in north Peoria. The shooting happened around 10:51 p.m. Wednesday at a residence in the 1700 block of West Thames Drive, police said. The initial emergency call came in as a a report of trouble between a male and female. Killed in the shooting was Leigh Herring, Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said Thursday. Herring was previously in the Illinois Army National Guard and was injured while serving in Afghanistan in 2009, according to media reports. Officers found Herring, 39, with a gunshot wound to the head. He was dead at the scene.
