Girls Code the World – A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides opportunities, resources, and role models for young girls in STEM-related fields through educational programs with specialized curriculum and mentorships. JERPA – A clothing company looking to provide warmth, comfort, and style for its customers. Miss Monroe Collection – An organic and protective hair care company catering to the needs of people of color.  Project Cyclone – An automated recommendation platform to help maintenance technicians prolong the lives of their machines, reducing downtime and maintenance costs through artificial intelligence-based predictive insights.

$30,000 Prize Up For Grabs For Penn State Student Entrepreneurs

“The Investment,” modeled after ABC’s critically acclaimed “Shark Tank.: The 2021 competition will award six groups of student entrepreneurs a chance to earn a share of $30,000 to use as financial backing for their respective companies. The program will be used to determine this year’s winners. To apply, undergraduate student entrepreneurs must submit a two-and-a-half-minute video about their company by February 8. The six finalists will get announced on February 12. Then, on April 10 the taping of, “The Investment” will take place. Current undergraduate students (and fall 2020 graduates) who are in good academic standing may apply for the show. Undergraduate students must own at least 50% of the company, which needs to be legally established before February 15.

The top six student teams will pitch their startup to a panel of judges in a televised competition for a chance to win up to $30,000 in funding. Key dates for the 2021 Inc.U Competition are as follows: Undergraduate student entrepreneurs must submit a two-and-a-half minute video about their company to PennTAP by Feb. 8. Top six teams will be announced on Feb. 12. WPSU’s TV show competition, “The Investment,” will be taped April 10. Joseph Kitonga pitched his startup, Vitable Health, during the 2019 Inc.U Competition when he was a Penn State computer engineering student. He won second place and $10,000 to build out his on-demand health care coverage company. Now, Vitable insurance covers thousands of lives, employs a team of six, and recently raised $1.5 million from investors.
