(CNS News) On May 25, State Rep. Kate Klunk (R-York County) led the Pennsylvania House Health Committee in approving “Down syndrome protection legislation,” HB 1500, by a vote of 15-10. The bill, which prohibits the abortion of babies diagnosed with Down syndrome or based on sex, is now being considered by the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
As the legislation states, “An abortion shall not be deemed a necessary abortion if any of the following apply: (i) The abortion is sought because of the sex of the unborn child. (ii) The abortion is sought because the unborn child receives a prenatal diagnosis of Down syndrome.”

On Tuesday, the Pennsylvania House Health Committee voted to advance three anti-abortion bills: one that would ban abortions once a fetal heartbeat is detected, another that would ban abortions after a Down syndrome diagnosis, and a third that creates death certificate and burial requirements for both miscarriages and abortions. The legislation is expected to be voted on by the full Pennsylvania House of Representatives in early June.

Pro-life activists know state legislatures are the source for passing life-affirming legislation and there s a good reason why: Congress is a no-show in the effort to save unborn babies.
Earlier this year, South Dakota led all other states in passing the legislation - five bills in total - that have been signed into law by Gov. Kristi Noem.
Pennsylvania is now working on three bills to protect preborn children.

Let’s start with the good news: Democratic Governor Tom Wolf has promised to veto all three of the anti-abortion bills which passed out of the Pennsylvania House Health Committee yesterday. For the time being, none of this is becoming law.
Which is perhaps why these state legislators felt free to pass such blatantly unconstitutional, wildly unpopular claptrap. These dogs know they’re in no danger of catching the car. The Heartbeat Bill (House Bill 904) would ban all abortions after six weeks, when most women don’t even know they’re pregnant, while the Down Syndrome Protection Act (House Bill 1500) would make it illegal to access abortion care after a Down Syndrome diagnosis.
