Conservatives vote to expel Derek Sloan from caucus

Posted: Wednesday, January 20, 2021 16:48 Conservative legislators voted on Wednesday to expel former leadership candidate Derek Sloan from the Tory caucus “because of a pattern of destructive behaviour,” party officials said in a statement. Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole initiated the process to remove Sloan on Monday shortly after it emerged that the Ontario MP received a campaign donation from Paul Fromm, a self-described white nationalist. Sloan fought against the vote, saying his team was unaware of the source of the $131 donation because Fromm used his full name, Frederick P. Fromm. “The Conservative Caucus voted to remove Derek Sloan not because of one specific event, but because of a pattern of destructive behaviour involving multiple incidents and disrespect towards the Conservative team for over a year,” O’Toole said in a statement.

Derek Sloan voted out of Conservative Party

iPolitics By Rachel Emmanuel. Published on Jan 20, 2021 4:10pm Rookie MP Derek Sloan was voted out of the Conservative Party on Wednesday. (Photo from Sloan s Twitter) The Conservative Party caucus has voted to expel social conservative MP Derek Sloan after it came to light that a known white nationalist had donated to his leadership campaign.  Sources say a majority of 121 sitting Conservative MPs voted to remove him from their caucus on Wednesday. Sloan has represented the northeastern-Ontario riding of Hastings Lennox and Addington since 2019. The controversy erupted earlier this week after Press Progress reported that Paul Fromm, who self-identifies as a “white nationalist” and has ties to neo-Nazi groups, donated $131 to Sloan’s leadership campaign under the name Frederick P. Fromm.
