As incumbent Burnham Mayor Robert Polk looks forward to tackling priorities for his fifth term, challenger Antwon Russell holds out hope for a come-from-behind win.
In final, unofficial results released by Cook County Clerk Karen Yarbrough on Wednesday, Polk had 380 votes in Tuesday s general election to Russell s 332, a margin of 53% to 47%.

Candidates aligned with Polk also were apparent winners in their races. Incumbent Clerk Lus Chavez had 380 votes to 313 for John Hajduch. In the race for three spots on the village board, incumbents Travis Claybrooks (436 votes) and John Cap (399) and newcomer Christopher Hodges (379) outpolled Jasmyne Peters (316).
Patty Eidam and Vivian Payne, the incumbent mayor and clerk respectively, are unopposed in their reelection bids.

Early voting for the Tuesday election is underway. The closest early voting site is the Calumet City Public Library, 660 Manistee Ave., in Calumet City. Remaining early voting hours there are: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday.
Incumbent trustees seeking reelection are Dr. Maureen Grady-Perovich, who is running as an independent, and Brian Hardy and Lionel (Leo) Valencia, who are running on the Village Voice Party slate. The fourth candidate is Micaela Smith of the Village Voice Party.
LANSING â The fight against COVID-19 is coming to TF South High School.
Teachers and support staff from around the south suburbs will be able to receive the COVID-19 vaccine at the school beginning this week, officials announced at a Wednesday news conference.
TF South, at 18500 Burnham Ave., has been selected by Cook County Health to be a pilot Educational Point of Distribution (POD). It s going to be pretty amazing when you think of all the kids going back to school â it s of the utmost importance to get their teachers vaccinated, Lansing Mayor Patty Eidam said.Â
To know that Lansing will be at the forefront of the battle to contain the pandemic makes Eidam proud.
