Lori Lightfoot refuses to answer questions on exposed emails, says hackers demanded ransom

Ashlee Rezin Garcia/Sun-Times Mayor Lori Lightfoot on Monday accused a hacker gang of demanding ransom from the city and a private law firm hired to investigate a botched police raid in exchange for keeping secret a massive cache of City Hall emails that are now getting widespread attention. The ransom demands weren’t met and the emails were ultimately posted to the “dark web,” a shadowy portion of the internet that’s a haven for cybercriminals. Last month, Distributed Denial of Secrets, a nonprofit whistleblower group likened to WikiLeaks, republished the massive document dump, which lifts the veil on some of the inner workings of the Lightfoot administration.

The list of Lightfoot failures continues to grow. And now that COPA has done illegal investigations (which isn’t new; Second City Cop reported this angle a long time ago), this means every COPA “investigation” and “finding” is null and void. Wait for the lawsuits to follow on this. More incompetence, and it isn’t CPD’s nor the officer’s fault. As for the turnover in Lightfoot appointees, it proves the point that she is a terrible leader when her appointees are bailing on her. If your patron won’t listen to you and makes you look foolish with terrible decisions and poor acumen… you leave after being there “long enough” for the resume.

Hacked emails detail inner workings of Mayor Lori Lightfoot's administration

Colin Boyle/Sun-Times file photo A massive cache of tens of thousands of hacked emails detailing the inner workings of Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s administration was leaked to the public last month apparently in response to the fatal police shooting of 13-year-old Adam Toledo. The emails were posted online on April 19 by Distributed Denial of Secrets, a nonprofit whistleblower group similar to WikiLeaks that’s facilitated other recent high-profile data dumps. An unrelated hacker gang initially stole the files during a series of data breaches that swept up sensitive information from corporations, universities and government bodies. Related Freddy Martinez, a local activist and member of DDoSecrets’ board, said his team discovered the files on the “dark web,” an unchecked portion of the Internet that’s a haven for cybercriminals. DDoSecrets ultimately posted the voluminous collection of emails after realizing they contained information “the public should know,” Marti

Weekly Financial Wrap: Workers Want Flexibility; Banks Earnings Explode; and Supply Shortages Push Prices Up

SavingAdvice.com Blog Most Workers Do Not Want the Old Office Routine With vaccinations increasing and the economy opening up, more people are talking about the workforce returning to normal. But, what will the new normal be? A recent survey by Harvard Business School (HBS) found that 81 percent of those forced to work from home during the pandemic want to continue working remotely in some manner. Of that number, 27 percent want to work from home full-time. Another 61 percent favor a hybrid of two or three days in the office and two or three days at home. Only 18 percent of those surveyed wanted to return to the office full-time. Parents with children at home and married people wanted back in the office more than singles and those without children.
