(WSFA) - The 2021 AISA state baseball championship wrapped up at Paterson Field on Wednesday with the 3A title game between Pike Liberal Arts and Bessemer Academy. The Patriots were seeking their third straight state title, and won game one 6-2. Pitcher Drew Nelson put Pike on the board in the bottom of the second with a ground out at first. That would be followed by another RBI, this time from Skylar Kidd who sent a bouncing ball through left.

More “Walk-In” Clinics this Week in North Adams, Pittsfield and Great Barrington Time to get your vaccine if you have not yet been jabbed.  Tomorrow from 2pm to 7pm in Pittsfield the Pfizer vaccine will be administered at the Berkshire Community College, Paterson Field House.  The BCC clinic is located at 1350 West Street in Pittsfield. In North Adams on Thursday a walk-in clinic will be held again this week at the St. Elizabeth of Hungary Parish between 2pm and 6pm. That clinic will have both the Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines available. Great Barrington will open the doors of the W.E.B. DuBois Middle School on Saturday from 1pm to 4pm.  The Pfizer vaccination will be issued at the school at  313 Monument Valley Road in Great Barrington.

Delta State retires Kinnison s jersey; they ll never retire his remarkable story

Kinnison, a former DSU All American, won 75.6 percent of his games as the school’s head coach. He won a national championship in 2004 and six NCAA Regional titles as head coach. Author’s note:  Delta State University will retire former head baseball coach Mike Kinnison No. 15 jersey in a ceremony Saturday at Harvey Stadium-Ferriss Field prior to the 2 p.m. doubleheader against the University of Alabama-Huntsville.     Kinnison guided the Statesmen to the 2004 NCAA Division II national championship, six College World Series appearances and 15 NCAA South Regional appearances. His Delta State teams won 981 games, while losing only 313 for a 75.6 win percentage. He averaged 42.5 victories per season.

Council approves $50M Montgomery improvement plan The city of Montgomery gave the green light this week to a bond issue that s expected to bring in $50 million for a wave of new building and improvement projects across the city. The move refinances several decade-old bond issues to borrow the money at a lower interest rate, while also bringing in $50 million that can be used for capital improvement projects. Council members worked with Finance Director Betty Beville and Mayor Steven Reed s office on the details of the plan and how to best use the money. The measure passed unanimously. Most bond issues run $30 million. This is $145 million, so everybody had concerns, Council President Charles Jinright said. Some of them had concerns about how much money was going to go into their district. . At the same time we got this bond issue going, there s a $42 million relief package coming from Washington.
