Positive end-of-year report for Clare’s TDs

Former defence minister Tony Killeen ran the rule of the constituency’s Dáil representatives and concluded that, as things stand, all four can be reasonably confident of retaining their seats.
Mr Killeen judged first-time TD and Fianna Fáil Cathal Crowe to have made a positive impact. “I’m hearing some really positive feedback from individuals and community groups about his constituency office,” he said. “He seems to have become a go-to TD for community organisations. Cathal has a style that suits being out and about on the ground. The pandemic has restricted that, obviously, but he has been using Zoom to keep in touch. He has boundless energy, he seems to run on Duracell. Of course, he’s not a political novice, but he has succeeded in making a positive impression over his first year in the Dáil.”

OPINION: Qatar Petroleum s mouth-watering $28.75 billion final investment decision on its first-phase expansion at the giant North Field has bucked the trend of an oil and gas industry reeling from the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, but it also posts challenges to other liquefied natural gas projects yet to see the light of day.

investment plan for the four-train expansion phase named North Field East has been touted as the largest single LNG project sanction in history and is set to significantly inflate the emirate s production capacity from a current 77 million tonnes per annum to 110 million tpa by mid-decade.

Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael and Sinn Féin have a guaranteed seat, so the second Fianna Fáil seat is the only question. Sinn Féin’s Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire will have a running mate in Carrigaline. Fine Gael’s Simon Coveney will have to manage the vote vastly better to bring in Senator Jerry Buttimer.
