David elected CBCP president

Kalookan Bishop Pablo Virgilio David (COURTESY OF RYAN REZO/DIOCESE OF KALOOKAN) CBCP News said the prelate was elected Thursday, July 8, during the bishops’ two-day online plenary assembly. David, the current vice president of the CBCP, will replace Davao Archbishop Romulo Valles of Davao. Ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of San Fernando in 1983, the 62-year old prelate is known as one of the country’s leading Bible scholars. In 2006, he was appointed auxiliary bishop of the same archdiocese, a post he served for around 14 years until he was transferred to the Kalookan diocese in January 2016. David also previously chaired the CBCP Episcopal Commission on Biblical Apostolate and was also among the five Filipino bishop delegates to the Synod of Bishops on the Word of God in the Vatican in 2008.

So far, so good, says Garganera on Cebu City's Covid-19 situation

April 17, 2021 THE number of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in Cebu City has gone down in the last two weeks. According to City Councilor Joel Garganera, deputy chief implementer of the City’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC), the decrease of Covid-19 cases during this period was the reason fewer recoveries were recorded in the last three days. Based on the data of the Department of Health (DOH) 7, the city logged only 17 recoveries in the last three days, or 12 on April 14, four on April 15 and one on April 16. The DOH 7 data showed that Cebu City recorded 893 Covid-19 cases from April 3 to April 16.

Bishop cites COVID-19 response of Pasig, Pateros, Taguig

The bishop said, the Church works hand in hand with the government in the implementation of safety health protocols to help curb the spread of the virus. “Proper coordination and cooperation between the diocese and officials of the LGUs are important in addressing the effects of the pandemic,” Vergara said.  “We will heighten our vigilance as we observe the season of Lent. We call on the faithful to follow the safety measures being implemented in their parishes,” he added.
