STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The federal holiday celebrates the birthday of the slain civil rights leader who would have been 92 years old this year.
Though King’s birthday is Jan. 15, the holiday is celebrated on the third Monday of January each year.

Residents who normally receive Friday garbage collection can place materials at the curb between 4 p.m. and midnight on Friday, however collection may be delayed.
Residents who normally receive Friday recycling collection should hold onto materials until the next recycling collection day. For more information, residents should call 311 or check the city Department of Sanitation

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. As we get ready to celebrate the end of the year 2020, which brought with it the global coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, here’s a look at what is open and closed on New Year’s Day 2021, which will be observed on Friday.
