A clip from a feature-length documentary is sending shockwaves throughout the Greek shipping industry and beyond, after a prominent shipowner made disparaging comments about the industry’s lack of reliance on the Greek government.
During the remarks in the interview with European Investigative Collaborations, Panos Laskaridis, a well-known shipowner, said, amongst other things, that the Greek shipping industry doesn’t need the government, the Greek Shipping Ministry, nor the prime minister.
“People who are in shipping don’t need the Greek government, don’t need the ministry, don’t need the prime minister… they can shit on the prime minister. They have no need of the prime minister.”

On April 19, the Greek government announced that a phased reopening had begun, marking the first time international travelers– including Americans– could visit the country since the borders closed in March 2020.

Greek-led INIOCHOS 21 exercise joined by US Airforce

INIOCHOS 21, which will be led by the Hellenic Air Force, will take place from April 12 to April 22.
According to a U.S. Air Force press release, the exercise is intended to enhance combat readiness and fighting capability, while also offering the opportunity to plan conduct complex air operations in a multinational, joint force environment.
In addition to the United States and Greece, Canada, Cyprus, Israel, Slovenia, Spain and the United Arab Emirates will also participate.

“INIOCHOS is an important opportunity for our Airmen to train alongside and learn from our Greek allies as well as the other exercise participants,” U.S. Air Force Gen Jeff Harrigian, USAFE-AFAFRICA commander, said in the press release.
