As Bob Brashear reflected on his 40-year career as a pharmacist, he recalled learning early on that a pharmacistâs role is so much more than simply filling prescription bottles with pills.
âI remember when I was working as an intern, filling a prescription for a diuretic for a lady. I remembered that she was also on lithium, and I remembered from pharmacy school that there was an interaction between lithium and diuretics,â he said.

âThey said she was doing fine, âbut now sheâs comatose,â and I told them about the interaction between diuretics and lithium and to call the doctor and have him check her and get her off the diuretics,â he said.
