The rocket launches came after a period of relative quiet on the Gaza border.
In late December, Hamas and other Gaza terror groups held a joint military drill during which several rockets were fired toward the sea, in an effort to send a “clear message to the Zionist enemy.”

On the eve of the drill, Palestinians attempted to fire a projectile into Israel, but it failed to cross the Gaza border.
That came two days after two rockets fired from Gaza struck open areas along the coast one near Ashdod and the other on Palmachim Beach, south of Tel Aviv causing no significant damage or injuries.

Rocket sirens blared in southern Israel early Tuesday morning for the second time in under a week as a projectile fired at Israel from Gaza failed to cross the border.
The alarms went off shortly after midnight in Kibbutz Kerem Shalom, near the southern part of the Gaza Strip and Israel’s border with Egypt.
The Israel Defense Forces said, “One launch was identified from Gaza that did not cross into Israeli territory.”
It wasn’t immediately clear if the projectile was a rocket or mortar shell.

Israel attacked the Hamas terror group in Gaza early Saturday morning in response to rockets fired from the Strip into Israel on Friday evening.
Israel Defense Forces aircraft attacked Hamas targets including a rocket manufacturing site, underground infrastructure and a military outpost, the IDF said in a statement.
“The attack was carried out in response to rockets fired from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory this evening,” the statement said. “The Hamas terror organization is responsible for all acts in and emanating from the Gaza Strip, and it will bear the consequences of terrorist acts against Israeli civilians.”
