The one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine had been a route to quickly reach Florida’s more than 100,000 farmworkers before many begin heading north later this month.
The state did not offer vaccines to these essential workers on a broad scale until Florida dropped its age limits for access earlier this month. In Immokalee, an agricultural hub in Southwest Florida, farmworker advocates and health workers reached thousands of farmworkers with one-dose vaccines in recent weeks.
Still, other programs to reach underserved communities will continue.
For instance, inmates at the Palm Beach County jail will continue to be vaccinated by swapping out the temporarily shelved vaccines for those manufactured by Pfizer, said Dr. Alina Alonso, director of Palm Beach County s state-run health department.

At 81 there’s very little that bothers Susan Green except for the rollout of the COVID vaccine in Florida. How could you not have a plan, this is no surprise that this was coming so I m just outraged., she said.
Green said she s called and emailed Palm Beach County to register for vaccination. I have no access as far as I can tell anytime in the near future and I m old. I m 81, I have a life and I want to get going, she said.
