CM declares cyclone emergency KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah presiding over a meeting regarding Cyclone Tauktae on Saturday at CM House declared emergency in all the districts located along the coastline for taking precautionary measures to meet any untoward situation. A control room should be established at the chief secretary s office to keep close coordination with all the districts, in respect of their requirements and giving them necessary instruction on behalf of the government, he said. The Cyclone Tauktae is heading towards Indian Gujrat, but its periphery is expected to hit the coastline of Balochistan and Sindh causing torrential rain, high winds and rough sea.

PHOTO: EXPRESS KARACHI: The cleaning of storm water drains in Karachi is in full swing, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) claimed on Sunday following the looming threat of cyclone Tauktae hitting Balochistan and Sindh in the coming days. According to the authority s spokesperson,14,900 tonne of garbage had been removed from the Mahmoodabad drain so far, whereas 153,031 tonne of garbage had been disposed of from the Orangi drain and 73,550 from the Gujjar Nullah.

However, oxygen supplies at government hospitals in the provincial capital Quetta are either inactive or insufficient because the government has not fulfilled prior financial commitments to private companies for these oxygen cylinders. Most of the cases of coronavirus are being reported from just seven districts across the province, including the most populated Quetta, due to which the need for oxygen has also increased. Oxygen supplies for Covid-19 patients at the Fatima Jinnah Hospital are inactive. However, the provincial authorities have issued a tender for a new oxygen plant for the facility. The oxygen plant at BMC Hospital is operating at minimum capacity despite the health emergency while the plants at the Sheikh Zayed Hospital and Civil Hospital,
