Six Berryville High School athletes will compete in the Class 4A track and field state championships after qualifying at last weeks 4A-1 district meet.
The Bobcats 4x800-meter relay team of Caden Nickell, Weston Teague, Jake Lopez and Newt Wiley finished second in the district meet with a time of 9:38.61, while Nickell took third place in the high jump at 5-8 and Tun Oo was third in shot put at 40-11.75.
Green Forest hosted the 3A-1 district championships, also on Tuesday, April 27. On the girls side, Amelya Deal finished second in the 400-meter dash (1:11.99) and pole vault (5-6). Among boys, Paco Rangel won the 3,200-meter run in a time of 11:28.65 and the Tigers 4x800-meter relay team of Paco Rangel, Daniel Schultz, Matthew Vasquez and Alonzo Rangel won that event in 9:13.20. Vasquez took second place in the 400-meter dash (58.37), while Alonzo Rangel was second in the 800-meter (2:20.87) and 1,600-meter (4:53.91) runs. Isaiah Guchuzo was third in

Green Forest had a strong showing in the Bomber Invitational track and field meet on Friday, April 23.
The Tigers finished fourth in the boys team standings and won three events.
Sophomore Alonzo Rangel won the 1,600-meter run in a time of 4:57.95, less than six seconds of junior Paco Rangel, who finished third in 5:03.51. Alonzo Rangel also finished fourth in the 800-meter run.
Paco Rangel took first place in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 11:23.28 and the 4x800-meter relay team won that event with a time of 9:22.19. That relay team includes Matthew Vasquez, Daniel Schultz, Paco Rangel and Alonzo Rangel.
Among 14 boys teams, Berryville finished fifth and Green Forest was sixth.
Berryville sophomore Tun Oo finished second in the shot put and the Bobcats also took second place in the 3,200-meter relay. Senior Dominic Henry took third place in the long jump and fifth place in the 100-meter dash and the triple jump. Senior Saylor Debron was fourth in the 100-meter dash and fifth in the high jump.
For Green Forest, Alonzo Rangel was second in the 800-meter run and fourth at 1,600 meters. Paco Rangel took third place in the 3,200-meter run and was fifth at 1,600 meters. Matthew Vasquez finished fifth in both the 400- and 800-meter runs.
