as well as hail. anywhere between 8:00 to 10:00, we get initiation across oklahoma, back through texas, then it pushes through the southeast as we roll into the evening hours into sunday. again, watching for the heat as well. many of us across the deep south with excessive heat warnings where it will feel like we re pushing near 110 degrees. yeah, that is scorching. britley ritz, thank you. we are following new developments in russia s war on ukraine. ukrainian officials say at least two people have died and more than two dozen were injured in the shelling of the city of kherson. the head of the regional ministry says russia launched 75 attacks on the area in the last 24 hours. the shelling comes as ukraine s counteroffensive is going on. let s get the latest from cnn s fred pleitgen. bring us up to speed. reporter: well, that counteroffensive is going on and it s certainly picking up steam officers the ukrainians are concerned. yesterday an ukrainian official came out and said
and an angry russian president claiming that russian is beating back ukraine s forces. they ve suffered large losses, vladimir putin says, ten times more than the russian army, and that is a fact. the ukrainians do acknowledge some losses, but also say they ve taken out a lot of russian assets and these troops vow to press on and take more vehicles from moscow s troops as they advance. victor, those troops certainly did seem to be in good spirits. they said right now they re trying to advance as much as they can. they say they use small units to try to move forward. the ukrainians saying not only on the southern front are they making progress, but on the eastern front as well. thank you, fred. russian president vladimir putin is once again raising the specter of nuclear weapons. putin says russia could use them in response to threats. let s bring in cnn contributor and former moscow chief, adjunct
meteorologist britley ritz is with us from the cnn weather center. where are these threats most, i guess, potent, concentrated today, and tell us more about what we re expecting. oklahoma and kansas, same threats once again. unfortunately, long, strong tornadoes expected to touch down once again later this evening and through the overnight. one thing i do need to tell you, and let this resonate, is know where your safe spot is. get into an interior room, many walls between you and the outside as possible. if you have a basement, get there as quickly as possible, as soon as the warning is issued. no warnings at the moment on radar. notice the storm activity stretching through central kansas and storms moving through the south as well. pushing back into the gulf of mexico. we ve got the jet stream sitting nearby, that s going to help enhance some of the storms. and of course the area of low pressure as it deepens. you ll see the areas highlighted in orange where we re most vulnerable,
you know, this was not something that was easy for us to do. we ve never done anything like this. i was just really worried about their reaction and what would we do if there was some terrible reaction to what they were seeing. but they were adamant. they did it as a group, which i think helped them. so, we recorded that whole thing and we played it out. it s powerful. and the difference here, anderson, you know, sadly we ve covered so many of these school shootings, and we do specials after, one year later. this is so different in the sense that we are really giving people a look inside of what happened in that classroom. it s just incredible to me that parents have not been given this look by authorities. we know thanks to your reporting, we know all the flaws in the investigations, all the investigations have taken place, all the flaws that occurred. it s extraordinary work. thank you for everything, anderson. be sure to watch shimon s report in an all new installment of the
