A 34-year-old suspected kidnapper, Sampson Ebiowei, has explained that he got his operational AK-47 rifle from a soldier of the Nigerian Army serving in the Operation Lafiya Dole in the North-East who sold the weapon to him for N300,000.
Ebiowei, who hails from Ofunama in the Ovia South West Local Government Area of Edo State, was caught by the police with the rifle as well as 88 rounds of ammunition.

Host communities of Okomu Oil Palm Company Plc in the Ovia South West Local Government Area of Edo State have protested against alleged marginalisation and ill-treatment by the company.
The protesters, drawn from the host communities of Gbelebu, Safargbo, Okomu, Oweike and Maikolo, carried placards with different inscriptions, including, ‘Govt, tell Okomu oil company to open our road,’ ‘Okomu oil company, give us our fishing traps that are with you,’ ‘Stop polluting our stream with your agro chemical, it is our only source of drinking water,’ and ‘We are not terrorists, stop harassing us with military, Okomu oil.’

The host communities of Okomu Oil Palm Company Plc in Ovia South-West Local Government Area of Edo State, over the weekend held a peaceful protest against what they tagged marginalisation and ill-treatment and water pollution by the oil palm company.
The protesters, who were drawn from the host communities such as Gbelebu, Safargbo, Okomu, Oweike and Maikolo, carried placards bearing various inscriptions such as “Govt tell Okomu Oil Company to open our road”, “Okomu Oil Company give us our fishing traps that are with you”; “Stop polluting our stream with your agrochemical, it is our only source of drinking water”; “We are not terrorists, Stop harassing us with military, Okomu Oil,” accused the company of using military personnel to block the only road that links them to Udo.

A philanthropist and youth ambassador Bright Esere-Obarogie, has appealed to the three tiers of government to fashion out means of reaching Nigerians who are in need with succour.
Esere-Obarogie made the appeal when he presented palliative to several inhabitants of Iguogun, Iguotakpa and Okoduwa communities in Ovia South West Local Government Area of Edo.
He said that the appeal became necessary because many poor Nigerians were left out of the several palliative programme initiated by the government boh tiers of government in the country.

Okomu (Edo) Dec.19, 2020 (NAN) The Managing Director, Okomu Oil Palm Company Plc, Dr Graham Hefer, says a strong institution and motivated staff are veritable tools for speedy development and growth of any organisation.
Hefer said this at the company’s 2020 long service awards, held on Saturday in Okomu, near Iguobazuwa, the administrative headquarters of Ovia South West Local Government Area of Edo State.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that no fewer than 87 staff, received the long service awards after putting in between 15 years and 25 years of meritorious services in the company.
Hefer said though the award had become an annual event, ” you all will agree that this year’s operations have been difficult because of the prevailing coronavirus pandemic.
