A tractor-trailer hauling 40,000 gallons of chicken fat overturned on the infamous "Dead Man's Curve" in Birmingham Tuesday morning, spilling its load and forcing the closure of the interstate.
Overturned 18-Wheeler Slows Down I-10 East In Acadia Parish
According to Rayne police chief Carroll Stelly, the crash happened around 4 a.m. Sunday.
Stelly says the 18-wheeler flipped and landed in the median. According to Stelly, the truck was carrying automotive parts. Right now, crews are offloading the cargo by hand. Stelly says the big rig once that process in completed, recovery crews will take the truck away from the scene.
According to a witness, traffic is backed up towards Crowley. Stelly confirmed that traffic is backed up for several miles, but he said it is moving. Still, drivers are urged to take a detour if they are planning to travel to Lafayette or other points east of Rayne.
