Glasgow University has a total of £751,568 invested in companies linked to West Bank settlements.
SCOTTISH universities have shares worth more than £2 million in companies linked to settlements in the West Bank which are considered illegal under international law, The Ferret can reveal. Companies backed financially by Scots academic institutions include a bank which finances construction in the West Bank and major global financial institutions underwriting Airbnb, which has around 200 properties for rent in illegal Israeli settlements. Critics have raised concerns over these investments and called for divestment from some of the firms. The universities said in response they are fully committed to socially responsible investments while the banks all have policies to uphold human rights.
One hundred of the units will be built in Tal Menashe, a community in northern Samaria that was home to Esther Horgen, a 52-year-old mother of six killed on Dec. 21 by a Palestinian terrorist while she was jogging in the forest near her house.
The European Union condemned the decision of the Israeli government to approve plans to build 780 new homes in Judea and Samaria and called on the government to reverse its decision.
In a statement, the EU said: ‘’Israel’s latest decision to advance plans for the approval and construction of almost 800 new settlement units in the West Bank, is contrary to international law and further undermines the prospects of a viable two-state solution.’’

Israel has advanced plans to approve nearly 800 housing units in West Bank settlements days before the inauguration of US President-elect Joe Biden.
The Higher Planning Council of The Civil Administration on Sunday gave its final approval for 265 housing units and preliminary approval for another 415 in several Jewish settlements built on land captured during the 1967 war, according to reports. The housing units are in 12 settlements, including Tal Menashe, the home community of Esther Hurgan, 52, a mother of 6, who was killed by a Palestinian terrorist while she was jogging in the nearby Reihan Forest in the northern West Bank. More than 200 of the units are slated for the West Bank outpost of Nofei Nehemia, and about 400 units in Beit El, Evyatar, Shavei Shomron, Oranit, the Barkan Industrial Zone, and Karnei Shomron.
