COVID-19: Umahi shifts resumption of schools in Ebonyi to January 18 Published The Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief David Umahi at the weekend, postponed school resumption earlier scheduled for Monday 4th January 2021, to 18th of the same month. Umahi made this known in statement signed and forwarded to DAILY POST through the commissioner for education Dr. Onyebuchi Chima. He revealed that the postponement was as a result of the need to take precautions against the impending second wave of Covid-19 and in compliance with the directives of the Presidential Task Force on Covid19. He said: “I have been directed by the Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency Engr. David Umahi to inform all public, private and mission Nursery, Primary, Secondary schools, Ebonyi State Colleges, University and the general public that due to the need to take precautions against the impending second wave of Covid19 and in compliance to the directives of the Presidential Task Force on Covid19:

Ebonyi reopens schools January 18

The Ebonyi Government has directed schools across the state to resume for the continuation of the first term of the 2020 /2021 academic session on Jan. 18. This is contained in a statement by the State Commissioner for Education, Dr Onyebuchi Chima, on Saturday in Abakaliki. x The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that public, private and mission schools in the state were originally slated to resume for the continuation of the first term on Jan. 4. NAN recalls that the Ebonyi government had directed schools to vacate for the Christmas holiday on Dec. 18, 2020, after it reopened schools in October, with the lifting of lockdown due to the outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

2021 Budget: Stakeholders laud Ebonyi govt on allocation to education

They said the figure was commendable, describing education as the only key to growing nations and states. Naija247news recalls that Gov. David Umahi had on Dec. 15 presented an appropriation bill of N122.8 billion for the 2021 fiscal year to the state House of Assembly. The 2021 budget is tagged “Budget of Stabilisation and Consolidation in a Recession.” “We have budgeted 19.47 per cent of our total budget or N23,913,778,152.08 to Education,” the governor said.
